DAY 21 - Zoey’s First Diwali: A Quiet, Happy & Paw-fect Celebration 🪔🐾
Zoey’s first Diwali with us was everything we hoped it would be—simple, calm, full of love, and a lot of treats.
As pet parents, we were honestly a little unsure at first. Diwali can be loud, overwhelming, and scary for dogs. But we decided to celebrate it in Zoey’s way—peaceful, warm, and inclusive. And guess what? She loved every bit of it.
This is how we celebrated Diwali with our Chow Chow, while keeping her safe, happy, and stress-free.
🪔 A Pet-Friendly Diwali Setup for Zoey
We skipped loud crackers and chaos and focused on quiet traditions instead.
✨ We used electric diyas on the floor (no flames, no smoke).✨ The house was softly lit and calm.✨ Familiar smells, familiar faces, familiar routines—important for dogs like Zoey who thrive on comfort.
Zoey sat near us, observing everything with her usual calm Chow Chow curiosity.
🙏 Zoey Sat With Us During Pooja (Yes, the Entire Aarti!)
One of the most special moments of the day was during the Diwali pooja.
Zoey:
- Sat with us through the entire aarti
- Watched the diya glow
- Stayed calm and relaxed
- Took it all in without any anxiety
We even gave her a gentle aarti of her own—and she sat there like she knew she was part of the family ritual. 🥹🐶
🍖 Zoey’s Diwali Thali (Bone Included!)
Of course, no celebration is complete without food.
We made Zoey her own pet-safe Diwali thali:
✔️ Her favourite bone placed separately for her
✔️ Extra treats spread throughout the day
✔️ No human sweets, no unsafe foods
She absolutely loved the attention (and the treats). Chow Chows may be calm, but they are very aware when treats are involved.
🛕 Zoey’s First Temple Visit
Later in the day, Zoey also visited the temple with us. We kept it short, quiet, and respectful.
She stayed close, calm, and comfortable—another reminder that when dogs are introduced gently to new environments, they often surprise you.
🍽️ A Simple Family Dinner & Lots of Photos
Diwali night was intentionally low-key:
- A simple home dinner with mom and dad
- Lots of pictures (because first festivals matter!)
- Zoey sitting nearby, watching us eat, waiting for her next treat
There was no rush, no noise—just warmth.
🌙 Ending the Day the Best Way: Snuggles & One Last Treat
After a long day of new experiences, Zoey curled up with us.
✔️ One final treat
✔️ Soft cuddles
✔️ Calm energy
✔️ A very content Chow Chow
That’s how Diwali ended—for all of us.
🐶 What Zoey’s First Diwali Taught Us
Celebrating festivals with pets doesn’t have to be loud or complicated.
Here’s what worked for us:
- Avoiding firecrackers
- Using electric diyas instead of flames
- Including Zoey in rituals without forcing anything
- Giving her safe treats instead of human sweets
- Ending the day with comfort and familiarity
Diwali, for Zoey, became a day of belonging—and that mattered more than anything.
❤️ Final Woof
Zoey’s first Diwali wasn’t about noise or decorations. It was about togetherness, calm joy, and making her feel included.
If you’re a new dog parent wondering whether you can celebrate festivals with your pet—the answer is yes. Just do it their way.
